The Community Affairs Wing of the CGI, Dubai was established in August 2010
- To coordinate with the Indian associations in Dubai and the northern Emirates as well as to assist Indians lodged in the prisons of Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
- To deal with Consular matters relating to Indian nationals lodged in the prisons of Dubai and Northern Emirates (except Sharjah).
Prison Visits
Officers from the CGI, Dubai regularly visit prisons in Dubai and the Northern Emirates to enquire about the welfare of the Indian inmates. Visits to prisons in Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain are usually done once a month. Prisons in Dubai and Sharjah are visited on a weekly basis. The CGI facilitates the repatriation of released prisoners by issuing Emergency Certificates (if they don’t have a valid passport) after verifying their whereabouts in India.
