“India-Sharjah Business and Cultural Forum”

The Consulate General of India, Dubai in association with Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry(SCCI), the Indian Business Professional Council, Sharjah, and the Indian Association Sharjah will host the first “India-Sharjah Business and Cultural Forum” on the 18^th of November, 2009.

The initiative was announced during a press conference on 16^th November, 2009 which was addressed by Chairman of SCCI Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa., Consul General of India Venu Rajamony, Chairman of IBPC, Sharjah Sudesh Aggarwal, and President of Sharjah Indian Association, K Balakrishnan.

The “India-Sharjah Business and Cultural Forum” will comprise of a business event and an exhibition of paintings in the morning and a cultural programme in the evening.

 The business event to be held at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry will be attended by leading businessmen of Sharjah and UAE, Government functionaries of the Emirate of Sharjah as well as leading businessmen from India and across UAE.  It will provide a platform for interaction between business leaders of India and Sharjah. The keynote address will be delivered by Chief Guest - H.E Sheikh Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade.  

Presentations will be made by both the Indian side and the Sharjah side on business opportunities, trade and investments.  Prominent trade and industry chambers from India including the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) and The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) will be represented in addition to the Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd. (IL & FS Group).

Dr. Siddharth Roy, Chief Economist, Tata Group will speak on “An Overview of the Indian economy and Industry”, Mr. A. Shaktivel, President, Federation of Indian Export Organisation on “Enhancing trade between Indian and Sharjah/UAE, Mr. Shahzaad Dalal, Chairman, IL & FS Group on  “Investment opportunities in India’s infrastructure sector”, Mr. Bikky Khosla, CEO, Infocom Network and Chairman of the SME Committee of ASSOCHAM on “Strengthening collaboration between SME’s in India and UAE”.

The cultural programme in the evening will be held at University City Hall, Sharjah, which will mainly comprise of variety programme by school children and a performance by the DARPANA group led by Ms. Mallika Sarabhai titled “India-Then, Now and Forever”. The show is a travel through time and incorporates classical, folk, tribal and contemporary dance to celebrate India’s multiculturalism and plurality.      

A painting exhibition titled “100 years of Indian Cinema” by Mr. M. F. Husain, India’s foremost artist, will be held at Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is open to all from November 18 – 20, 2009. The timings are:

Nov.20            5.30pm to 8.30pm
