Anand retaines the world chess championship

Viswanathan Anand has retained the world chess champion. He drew after 24 moves against Russian Vladimir Kramnik in the 11th and penultimate game of the Championship. At Bonn in Germany playing with white pieces Anand took an unbeatable six and half points lead to retain his World Title. Kramnik got four and half points.

Viswanathan Anand became world chess champion last year by winning a tournament in Mexico, where Kramnik was again runner up. Anand first won the title in 2000.

President Pratiba Devi Singh Patil has congratulated Viswanathan Anand for winning the world Chess title. All India Chess Federation President N. Srinivasan said it is a Diwali gift for Tamil nadu. He said we are proud on his fantastic achievement.

Anand's father Vishwanathan was excited over his son's victory.
