As part of the first “India Show” in Dubai, Indian Business & Professional Council (IBPC) organized the “India Business Summit” in partnership with Confederation of Indian Industry(CII) and supported by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Federation of Indian Export Organisations(FIEO) and India Brand Equity Foundation(IBEF) on June 9, 2010 in Dubai.
The event was jointly inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister for Education and Scientific Research, UAE and H E Mr. Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
In his special address, H.H. Sheikh Nahayan stated that India and the UAE share common values and their relationship goes beyond history and thrives on robust trade and economic ties. He expressed his admiration for India’s increasing economic strength, especially of the rising influence of the Indian companies globally. Sheikh Nahayan also spoke about discovering newer opportunities to further strengthen India- UAE ties.
During the Inaugural Address, the Commerce Minister, Mr. Anand Sharma stated that given the great bilateral, political and commercial relations that the UAE shares with India, Dubai was chosen as the first of the five destinations to hold the India show worldwide. The Minister also said that UAE was India’s largest trading partner and announced that the preliminary data suggests that in 2009-10, India – UAE trade had reached $43 billion, in what was a difficult phase for the global economy. He also said that the US$1.3 trillion Indian economy would double in the next five years and quadruple in the next decade and a half. The Minister also spoke about his faith and abiding commitment to realizing that the 21st century truly becomes an Asian century in which countries like UAE and India will play a leading role.
